Favorite Horror Hero: Derek (Bad Taste)

Chris Jacques

Favorite Movies: I’ll watch pretty much any movie with Eric Roberts in it, and my sentimental favorites are It’s My Party and Best of the Best. I have no good reason for that, and I apologize in advance. When it comes to horror, though, Carnival of Souls (1962) or Dawn of the Dead (1978) are probably my official tops. And I could watch C.H.U.D. or Vamp pretty much endlessly…
Favorite Directors: Jean-Pierre Jeunet, M. Night Shyamalan and John Carpenter are pretty high up there, and I want to add Nimrod Antal…but I’ll wait for a couple more from him.
What you do for fun: road trips, getting lost, pretending I’m a stranger in strange bars and getting drunk off of free drinks, writing my books, petting my cat, making amazing meals and singing power metal badly
Interests: writing, movies, improv comedy, spoken word pretense, hanging out with good people, leering at attractive women
Favorite movie quote: “Did you see what God just did to us?!?” Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Favorite sub-genre of horror movies: I’m not sure if it counts, but most of my favorite horror flicks have to do with the road. Carnival of Souls, Dead End, Christine, The Hitcher, even stuff like Breakdown is centered on horrific events that occur in or around the culture of cars, and that works for me.
Favorite horror villain: Pinhead easily strikes the most iconic face, but I think that Freddy Krueger would be my favorite. Whether he’s funny or terrifying, he’s always the most engaging.
Favorite horror hero: No joke, Henry from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer was pretty awesome until the midpoint of the movie…if not him, then it’s Bub from Day of the Dead (1985). I identify with the downtrodden.
Favorite death scene in a movie: Typically, I’d say “sleeping bag baseball” from Friday the 13th VII, but lately, I could pretty much take my pick from anything in Laid to Rest and be sufficiently satiated. This, of course, excludes the epic lawnmower scene from Dead Alive…yeah, that’s the ticket!
