RotLD Book Faces Studio Opposition
A new horror book being penned by Christian Sellers (of Dr. Gore’s Funhouse and Midnight-Theatre.com) and designer Gary Smart dedicated to celebrating the Return of the Living Dead franchise is facing some serious opposition from studios. It appears that the studios won’t allow the authors to use images from Return of the Living Dead Part II for their planned retrospective book on the ROTLD franchise. Warner Bros. has decided to refuse permission to use images from the movie.
2010 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first movie and the series has never been given a detailed retrospective and no books have been dedicated to it. The book will cover the entire history of the series, from its origins in George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead to the 2005 double bill that alienated many of its fans. So far the book has over 60 cast and crew from the five films involved and 100s of unseen behind-the-scenes images.
The authors are seeking the help of horror fans to let the studios know how important the inclusion of the Return of the Living Dead Part II images would be to the book. They have started an online petition and need at least 1,000 signatures to prove to the studios that there is support from the fans and strong importance to include the ROTLD Part II images as part of a larger retrospective on the series. If fans could leave their name and a comment if they like that would help, although only polite comments as abuse would do more harm than good.

Just imagine how kick-ass a ROTLD book covering all the films would be! Horror fans should be all over this petition, because who doesn’t want to see a comprehensive and complete ROTLD book?! It just baffles me that Warner Bros. wouldn’t want to allow images to be used because it seems that this could reignite interest in the franchise and in turn make them some money…who knows what they are thinking! So here’s hoping you sign the petition and get us closer to having a complete ROTLD book!
