Production begins on horror/comedy Monster In The Woods
With casting nearly complete, the sizable cast of the upcoming horror/comedy Monster In The Woods met on Tuesday, May 29, for their first script read-through. “This is by far the largest cast we have ever worked with,” said director Andy Davis (2, Mud, I’m Sorry) “The dynamics at the first rehearsal was unlike any other we have done. I can’t wait to get this group in front of the camera. They really made the screenplay come to life.”
The film, the fifth by Motion Media, John Lane Films and Emptyhouse Film, is executive produced by John Lane (Lobsteroids, The Novice starring Chuck Norris). “It was exciting,” said Lane of the first rehearsal. “It showed us that the comedic aspect of the storyline really worked. The cast is huge and the talent among them is amazing. We are all very thankful for the amount of support we have received thus far.”
Monster follows the adventures of a pair of cryptozoologists (Jana Regan and Seth Holbrook) who investigate a series of Bigfoot sightings in the backwoods of Maine. To discover the truth, they’ll have to contend with untrusting (and heavily armed) locals, a headline-chasing rival researcher, a small-town sheriff and, just maybe, Bigfoot itself.
The script is co-written by Andy Davis and Austin Film Festival winner Al Lamanda (2, Dunstan Falls) and it will be a quirky feature-length film in the spirit of “Lake Placid” and “Evolution.”
Principal filming is set to begin in Freeport, Maine, in mid-June. “With the many locations and actors this film encompasses, it will certainly take on a life of its own and showcase the talent and awesome landscapes Maine has to offer,” said producer Olin Smith (2, Mud, I’m Sorry).
