New Movie Download Site Launching Friday the 13th with Indie Shocker “Roadkill”
On Friday, February 13th, a brand new movie download site aimed at independent horror film fans will launch at http://www.downloadhorror.com.
Featured on that site will be a film called Roadkill, directed by Kansas City based grindhouse auteur Jeff Chitty. Chitty began filming Roadkill all the way back in 2005, and has since been busy editing and promoting the film while also working on various other projects.
“No one wanted to distribute the film either because of it’s graphic content, or more often then not; because it was shot in black and white,” shares Chitty. “Finally, Darrin Ramage and the rest of the crew at Maxim Media International stepped up to the plate and offered to distribute the film.” A deal was signed last year for international rights with the company, who specializes in low budget horror and shock films.
The first step of the film’s distribution is the video on demand release through www.downloadhorror.com. In late 2009 Roadkill will also be featured in a 50 film box set to be distributed by Pendulum Pictures and available at retail outlets such as Best Buy nationwide. Also later in 2009, Chitty plans to self-release a special edition of the film on DVD. “MMI has no current plans to release a stand alone DVD of the film, but has given me the option to self distribute one if I wish, so sometime later in the year we will self release Roadkill: Cannibal Orgy Edition featuring extra discs of cast and crew interviews, commentaries, and a very long blooper reel.”
The film itself is an extremely nihilistic take on the “kids in a car break down in the country” motif, but Chitty mixes it up a little with some very dark humor and a raw “shot on black and white super 8″ kind of look. Rather than take itself too seriously, the film throws out tons of gross out humor reminiscent of the early works of John Waters and lets the acts of graphic violence speak for themselves.
“The ‘kids in a car break down in the country’ thing has been done so many times, but rarely with this crazy juxtaposition of humor and shock. There are points in the film where the audience is honestly not sure whether to laugh of scream, but they know that they cannot look away” Chitty claims with a smile. “It’s certainly not a family film, and you may need to take a shower after watching it, but I can safely say you’ve probably never seen anything quite like it.”
Roadkill, along with many other independent horror films will be available for digital download Friday February 13th at www.downloadhorror.com.
