Dreadful DVDs

Silent Night, Deadly Night – Re-released just in time for the holiday season by Anchor Bay. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without some “Punishment!” Stop being naughty! (Review)

Hatchet (Unrated Director’s Cut) – Splatterifically fun – a must for any gorehound this season! Who wouldn’t want the gift of gore from good ol’ Victor Crowley?! (Review)

Halloween – Unrated Director’s Cut (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition) – Horror fans might be divided on this remake, but this 2-disc director’s cut offers fans some insight on the (re)making of this film. (Review)

The Evil Dead (Ultimate Edition) – Yes, it’s another special edition, but this one has 3 discs packed to the gory gills with features! Besides the film, the discs boast a wide array of features – meet the Ladies of Evil Dead, see a “Making Of” featurette, panels, deleted scenes, a special with star Bruce Campbell, trailers and tons more! A delight for any hardcore fans of the film!

The Bava Box Set, Vol. 2 – The first The Mario Bava collection was a hit, so now #2, with eight (!) of Bava’s films has been released. Both volumes are musts for Bava or giallo fans!

The Girl Next Door – Brutally shocking and based on Jack Ketchum’s book that is based on a true story, it doesn’t get more horrifying than this. If you really wanna traumatize someone this holiday season…this is the movie that’ll do it! (Review)

Stupid Teenagers Must Die – A hilarious low budget flick that pokes fun at the ridiculously fun 80s slashers. Even the posters proudly proclaim the film’s “Excessive violence, gratuitous nudity and zero budget!” (Review)

Bloody Books

Beyond Horror Holocaust: A Deeper Shade of Red by Chas Balun – Explores forty years of shocking horror cinema. Looks very worthwhile!

Mario Bava – All the Colors of the Dark by Tim Lucas – An exhaustive, 12 pound tome on the great, late Mario Bava. A true labor of love for author Tim Lucas, the book is $260 but from all the positive reviews and “Best of…” lists it has landed on, it looks like money well spent.

Dark Delicacies II: Fear; More Original Tales of Terror and the Macabre by the World’s Greatest Horror Writers – An anthology of short stories by some of horrors best and brightest, along with a few new faces. This anthology is put out by the infamous Dark Delicacies horror bookstore in Burbank, CA.

History Is Dead: A Zombie Anthology – Permuted Press has always been golden in my book, and they aim to please with their newest zombie anthology, edited by author Kim Paffenroth (Dying to Live).

The Mutter Museum: Of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia – A fascinating book put together by the Mutter Museum in Philidelphia. Features photos of real-life disfigurements and abnormalities from their collection. The book description reads that “Highlights include a bust of an early-19th-century Parisian widow with a six-inch horn protruding from the forehead; the connected livers of Chang and Eng, the world-famous Siamese twins; the skeleton of a 7’6” giant from Kentucky; and a collection of 139 skulls showing anatomic variation among ethnic groups in central and eastern Europe.”

Gory Games

Last Night on Earth The Zombie Game – A board game that puts you right in the action and makes you feel like you’re in the middle of a zombie movie! The description reads, “The Zombie Game is a fast-paced game of brain-eating Zombies, small town Heroes, and horror movie action. Players take on the role of either the Heroes, working together to make it through the night; or the Zombies, unending waves of undead spreading over the town like a plague. Featuring a modular board, eight Heroes to choose from, and several different Scenarios to play that drastically change the game, Last Night on Earth is designed to create a cinematic feel as the story and game unfolds. So put down that popcorn, grab your shotgun, and hide your brain; the Zombies are coming and this could be your Last Night on Earth!”

Clive Barker’s Jericho – A first person shooter game from mind of Clive Barker that combines horror, modern weaponry and supernatural elements. From the description: “Clive Barker’s Jericho delivers an overload of sensory horror. Players journey through hellish locations and slices of time combating gruesome and twisted enemies. A squad-based horror first person shooter, the Jericho of the title refers to the Jericho Team, a seven-man strike force that protects government interests from paranormal threats. Trained in both conventional warfare and the arcane arts, each Jericho Team member is an expert in different para-psychological disciplines, including telekinesis, pyromancy, blood magic and exorcism.”

Creepy Clothes

Dance Party Massacre – Everyone’s already got a horror movie shirt courtesy of Rotten Cotton, so why not try for something a bit more original? Dance Party Massacre has a line of tees out that were inspired by slasher flicks of the 80s and are absolutely brilliant! (Read our Product Spotlight)

Gold Label Goods – Customize your horror shirts! Chose licensed 30 Days of Night, Saw, Dexter and more designs to put on a variety of different shirts and merch! (Read our Product Spotlight)

For the One Who Has Everything…

Zombie Portraits – Have artist Rob Sacchetto transform your significant other into a brain-eating zombie! It’s simple…send in a photo of yourself or your fiend (or both…he does couples portraits as well!) and Sacchetto will hand-illustrate a portrait that’ll turn the subject into a flesh-eating ghoul!! Sacchetto’s work is amazing and he captures in fine detail what you would look like as a brain muncher!

Bryan Barnes Artwork – For the morbid art collector on your list, Bryan Barnes has macabre photographs and illustrations that would fit right at home in a horror fiend’s lair! He describes his artwork as a “dark sexy traumatic rollercoaster ride through visions of vanity, insecurity, obsession, eternity and lust.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves…(Read our Interview with Bryan Barnes)

Well, creeping kiddies, hope this helps you wreck the halls this year and fill a horror fiend’s dark heart with much delight!!

Beast wishes to all and to all a grue night!!
